Responsibilities

The Field Survey Technician plays a key role in supporting boundary, topographic, ALTA, and construction layout surveys in a variety of field environments. This position involves hands-on data collection, equipment operation, and collaboration with experienced surveyors to ensure accurate and efficient results. The ideal candidate enjoys outdoor work, takes pride in maintaining equipment and vehicles, and is proactive in supporting the team with a positive attitude. Primary responsibilities include:

• Perform fieldwork to support Boundary, Topographic, ALTA, and Construction Layout surveys.
• Operate Topcon GPS and Total Station equipment to collect precise site data.
• Interpret and record field information accurately for use in survey preparation.
• Work extended hours on site when needed to complete projects efficiently and minimize additional trips.
• Learn on the job and collaborate with experienced surveying staff to build technical skills.
• Maintain field equipment, tools, and vehicles in clean and reliable condition.
• Assist with general tasks during slower periods, such as cleaning and organizing work areas, maintaining vehicles, and preparing materials for upcoming projects.

Qualifications

• Experience with survey-grade GPS equipment and Total Stations (Topcon experience preferred).
• 2 years of field surveying experience or a degree in Land Surveying preferred, but not required.
• Strong math skills and attention to detail.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Enjoys working outdoors year-round in various weather and terrain conditions.
• Able to collaborate effectively with crew members and office staff.
• Basic computer literacy (data entry, file management, etc.).
• Physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform fieldwork tasks such as swinging an 8-lb maul, staking, ice removal, and snow shoveling.
• Valid Class D driver’s license and reliable transportation.
